View Dialogue

This report will show all (or character-specific) lines of Dialogue throughout the document. If writing a script, scene headings can also be included in this report. This report is useful, for example, during film production to simplify the script for actors or others who do not need to see all the line types, and benefit most from just seeing the dialogue. It is similar to a Character Report, which isolates scenes with specific characters in them (but not just the dialogue).

To generate a View Dialogue report:

  1. Reports > View Dialogue…  (default setting is for nothing to be selected, allowing user to specify what data is seen)
  2. Check boxes for which characters’ lines will be seen. (‘All dialogue’ will include dialogue from all characters in the script)
  3. Choose if scene headings will be included.
  4. Select View
  5. The open script will now only show the selected dialogue.

Note: If a report is currently active, it will be listed in the right sidebar under the 'Modes' tab. Statistics can be run while a report is active, but will only reflect data from the active report. To close a report select the ‘x’ to the right of its name.
