Missing or Lost Content

Sometimes, despite everything, one can end up in a situation where text, content or documents are missing or lost. 

My entire project is gone.

Check under File > Open. Are most of your projects there, but not this one? If so, try loading from the server only (rather than the faster offline script list), at this link: https://writerduet.com/script?online#_portfolio

If you don't see ANY of your projects under File > Open, you may be logged in with a different email address than the one that your account is actually under. Try logging out under Help > Logout and logging in with a different email address. 

If you still don't have any luck, email us at help@writerduet.com with your name, the email addresses you have tried, what the name and URL (web address) of the project is, and whether you've used the File > Delete or trashcan icon, or the Archive tool recently.


My project is here, but the content is not up-to-date.

Is it possible that you have multiple copies of the project under File > Open or under the Docs widget? If so, check those to see if that's actually where you were working last. 

Are you on a different device or app/browser than the one that you were last using when working on this project? If so, it's possible that the content didn't sync due to a network or wifi issue, but that it is still cached offline on that device and app/browser that you were last working on. If so, try going back to that location when you can, to see if it's there. If it is, ensure that it gets synced by waiting for the green checkmark over the save icon in the top right corner. Hover over the icon for more information about the most recent saves. You can also export from that device using File > Export > WriterDuet, to ensure that you have the file, that you can import into a new project on a different device that doesn't have the same network issues. 

If you're on the same device and browser/app as when you were last working on this project, check under Help > Locally Saved Backups. If you see a recent backup there that has your content, you can use the Select All button to select the text, so that you can copy it and paste it into a WriterDuet project, where it should auto-format.

If you see a recent backup there that has your content, you can use the Select All button to select the text, so that you can copy it and paste it into a new WriterDuet project, where it should auto-format. 


What are Locally Saved Backups? 

These are backups saved to your browser memory in Fountain format, which is a plain text screenwriting format based on Markdown. Due to its screenwriting-specific nature, it is able to format automatically for screenplays. These backups are erased when logging out using Help > Logout, to keep your content secure from other users on shared devices. For that reason, if you are prone to experiencing network issues, you will always want to make sure that everything is synced online before logging out with Help > Logout (or if it's not a shared device, you may want to log out only when necessary, and just close your app/browser tab instead to end sessions).
